Race 10 - Canada; Race 11 - Austria
Race 10: Canada (Montreal)
This race was decent for the most part until right before the end. I will admit there were tears shed and my jaw may still be on the floor.
George, Max, and Oscar started as top 3, Lando started from 7. Antonelli up to 3 AHEAD of Piastri. Lando overtook Alonso.
Verstappen pitted and went from 2-9, George went from 1-7.
Lando overtook Hamilton BEFORE he pitted which in turn took some time from Hamilton.
Lando pitted and went from 1 to 5.
Drivers were irritated with the pit walls and the comments from the walls during this race, one commentator mentioned that it seemed like the drivers were “in charge” during the race.
Then in a (somewhat?) shocking move, LANCE STROLL overtook Pierre Gasly?????
Alex Albon had to pull out and DNF’ed.
Lance Stroll then got a 10 second penalty for forcing another driver off the track.
Liam Lawson DNF’ed.
Then the worst possible thing happened for me and fellow LN4 fans, and of course Lando himself. Lando seemed to make a miscalculation of the space between the wall and Oscar while trying to overtake and he collided slightly with Oscar. While Piastri made it out of the collision OK, Lando DNF’ed. I was in tears. But also the race goes on nonetheless, George got P1 and Max got P2. But a good outcome of this race, KIMI ANTONELLI GOT P3. KIMI GOT ON THE PODIUM, HIS FIRST PODIUM, A ROOKIE PODIUM. While I was so sad for Lando, I was so, so happy for Kimi.
Race 11: Austria
The Austria GP takes place in the Styria Mountains and is considered the home race for Red Bull as this track is also known as the Red Bull Ring. This race had an aborted start. What many thought was Carlos Sainz pulling a Sonny Hayes, was actually him not being able to start. Carlos eventually got moving and it looked as if he was going to pull through the pit lane at the end of the aborted formation lap, but at the end of the pit lane his rear wheels caught on fire. Carlos had a DNS.
Lando started on pole and did amazing. Piastri started from P3 and almost immediately overtook Leclerc. It was then an intense battle of Piastri trying to get close enough to overtake Lando. He did at one point but Lando came right back and reclaimed first.
There was a safety car on lap 1 because Kimi Antonelli locked up and collided into Max Verstappen, resulting in a DNF for both Antonelli and Verstappen.
Alex Albon then DNF’ed, a double Williams DNF.
Tsunoda and Colapinto collided and Yuki got a 10 sec penalty for causing a collision.
Towards the end of the race, Lando and Oscar were lapping many backmarkers and at one point Colapinto forced Piastri off the track. He then got a 5 second penalty for forcing another driver off the track.
Lando came back strong after his DNF in Montreal and WON. The continued Mclaren dominance showed with Lando P1 and Oscar P2. Leclerc concluded the podium with P3. The Austrian GP had a strong showing for the Ferrari boys with Leclerc on the podium in P3 and Lewis Hamilton in P4. Another strong showing came from the Kick Sauber boys with Gabriel Bortoleto ending P8 and Nico Hulkenberg in P9.
Next race is the British Grand Prix which also takes place over July 4th weekend so with that being said I am ready for this weekend.
