Race 12: The British GP & Breaking News

The British GP was somewhat chaotic but had an AMAZING outcome.  The track happened to be wet at the start, so during the formation lap multiple cars pitted to put on slicks.  At this point, Colapinto stalled out in the pitlane and ended up with a DNS.

Lap 1 has a collision.  Esteban Ocon and Liam Lawson collided, which sent Lawson into the barrier and he ended up retiring from the race.  This collision also gave us the first VSC.  Right after the safety car ended, Bortoleto went into the barrier.  He was ok but ended up retiring in lap 5.  The second VSC came out in lap 6 and then there was rain in lap 11.

Then disaster struck, Lando had a 5.1 second pit stop.  Then there was a safety car for laps 14-17 due to rain and a wet track.  After this Isack Hadjar went into the barrier and DNF’ed.  This brought out the second safety car for laps 18-21.

Most of this race had very low visibility, and so in lap 21, still under the safety car, Oscar Piastri brake checked the cars behind him.  This caused Verstappen, Norris and other drivers to also slam on the brakes and this situation could have turned out a lot worse than it did.  Right after this, when cars were trying to take off after the safety car, Verstappen spun out and lost 8 places.  Piastri then got a 10 second penalty for a safety car infringement.  This penalty has some controversy attached to it.  Some people believe the 10 second penalty was too harsh and some people believe it was deserved.

Tsunoda and Bearman collided and Bearman ended up going across the grass.  Tsunoda ended up with a 10 second penalty for causing a collision.  Then Kimi Antonelli retired his car and had to DNF.  George then pitted and went from intermediate to hard tyres.  After this he spun out but recovered.

The best part of this race, the podium.  Lando got P1, winning his home race!  Piastri got P2, and most amazingly, Nico Nülkenberg got P3.  A Sauber got on the podium!  But going back to Lando’s win.  He won his home race in front of his grandstand.  It is probably a good idea to note that I do cry every time I see an edit of him winning this race.

Breaking News:

July 9th, there was some breaking news!  Christian Horner left Redbull, with immediate effect.  Then Laurent Mekies was promoted to take over CEO duties of RedBull Racing and Alan Permane was promoted to the RB team principal.  There is so much speculation about why he was fired and people are saying that it was a last ditch effort to keep Max Verstappen at Redbull and not going to Mercedes.  This is another rumor floating around, that Max is going to Mercedes.  Nothing official has come out about this so for now it is just speculation.  Now this week is the Belgium GP, and I am so excited to see what happens!

Related to F1 but also just important news, I mentioned a few rundowns ago that I was working on digital driver drawings.  Well, I have finished this and you can find them in my Photo Portfolio (Click this link to go directly there) under the Digital Art/ Illustration section.  They are also posted on my Instagram and I absolutely love how these came out!
